Those of us who run our own business do it because we love what we do and we want the freedom and flexibility of self-employment.

But the truth is (and I speak from experience!) it can be super stressful and can end up leaving you exhausted and out of balance.

It can be hard to to take time away (control issues, yes) and difficult to trust someone else to keep things running smoothly when no-one is really as invested in your business as you are.

So I was VERY happy to share some advice with @xero about how business owners can improve their emotional wellbeing and I love their idea of using the EOFY to do an emotional tax return and reset your wellbeing priorities for the new financial year. :)

Here are just a few tips I shared. Check out the link in my Stories to file your emotional tax return!

Break-ups are hard (no matter who decides to end it!) In my third book, I devote a whole chapter to ending relationships well.

Here are a few suggestions that might help you out:

1. Give it time - emotions are raw in the beginning, so avoid making big decisions during those first few days/weeks.

2. Feel your feelings - don't try to avoid or numb them. Talk to someone you trust and remember that you are entitled to feel sad, regardless of who ended it.

3. Avoid the trash talk - as tempting as it may be, painting your ex in a negative light doesn't honour the good times you had and ultimately reflects badly on you.

4. Beware the rebound relationship - these are a recipe for disaster and unfair on the other person involved. Instead, seek solace in platonic relationships.

5. Be kind to yourself - if you hurt someone, forgive yourself. If you're the one who has been hurt, remember that a break-up doesn't mean you're unloveable or unworthy.

Remember your best qualities and take the time to nurture yourself, so when the time is right and the next relationship comes along, you feel ready to bring your whole self.

Check out my book "Crappy to Happy: Love who you're with".

It contains practical tools on building strong relationships, in all areas of your life. Available in bookstores or listen for free on Audible!

Is it possible to go from a place of deep anxiety, shyness and self-doubt to stardom, public speaking and being a mental health advocate?

Nick Bracks did just that! And in my latest ep (out TODAY) he tells us all about his journey.

@nickbracks has struggled with low self-esteem and anxiety since he was a kid. His mental health struggles hit a low point when in 2007 he was in a drink driving car accident while his father Steve was the Premier of Victoria.

Since then he’s been on a mission to improve his mental health, and has gone on to run multiple businesses and perform on shows like Dancing with the Stars and Neighbours. Nick has some amazing advice around self-worth, intuition and the value of exercise and meditation.

Is there a story you are telling yourself based on past experiences?

Our brains are very good at filtering in all of the information that supports our existing belief. We have to intentionally steer our attention to the evidence that our preexisting belief is not always true. That sometimes there is another possibility.

In episode 3 of my new podcast The Confidence Coach, Jason asks how to overcome childhood bullying. In response, I explain how childhood experiences have lifelong physiological effects, and outline how the ABC model can help us shift our thinking.

How do you handle conflict in your relationship?

After the honeymoon phase is over, cracks can begin to appear. In long term relationships, conflict arises over differences in opinions or values. Parenting, money and sex are common areas of relationship conflict.

Conflict is not necessarily a signal that your relationship is doomed. In fact, studies have shown that it’s not the amount of arguments a couple has but HOW people argue which determines whether or not a relationship will succeed or fail.

If you are locked in battle with your significant other, it’s worth knowing what (world renowned relationship expert) John Gottman refers to as “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” and doing your best to avoid falling into these unhelpful relationship patterns, which are:

1. Criticism - attacking the other persons character, rather than talking about their behaviour
2. Contempt - belittling the other person with insults or dismissive eye rolling
3. Defensiveness - refusing to take on board your partner's feedback and making yourself the victim
4. Stonewalling - giving your partner the silent treatment or refusing to engage

For more advice on creating strong and healthy relationships, check out my 3rd book in the Crappy to Happy series "Love Who You're With".
